10 Things Only People Who Went To University of North Florida Will Understand

The Princeton Review has named the University of North Florida one of the best colleges in the Southeast for four consecutive years, and Forbes Magazine has deemed it one of “America’s Best Colleges”. Past and present students all agree it’s a great place to study, and living in sunny Jacksonville isn’t so bad either. Here are ten things only people who went to UNF will understand.

10. Clubs and Organizations

With over 140 clubs and organizations, there’s something for everyone at UNF. You’ll fit right in with one or more of these eclectic groups, and you know that the friends you make in these clubs are the ones you’ll have for life.

9. UNF Eco-Adventure Program

The UNF Eco-Adventure Program allows students to use the miles of nature trails and multiple lakes on campus. The lakes are utilized for canoeing, kayaking, and catch-and-release non-live-bait fishing. Students can also take advantage of the free outdoor equipment.

8. Osprey Productions

Osprey Productions has hosted some of your most memorable nights at UNF, including movie nights, trivia nights, concerts, comedy shows, open mic nights, and even laser tag. The best part was that these events were, and continue to be, free.

7. Greek Life

UNF’s Greek life is the largest student entity on campus with over 1,200 students and 24 Greek lettered groups. Attending Greek parties will quickly become a large part of your social calendar, and you’ll grow to prefer some over others.

6. The Spinnaker

You could always rely on The Spinnaker, published weekly for all of your UNF news. There’s also Spinnaker Television and Spinnaker Radio. Not to mention the randomly published Fiction Fix, issues have included works by authors from UNF and across the rest of the world.

5. The Thomas G. Carpenter Library

Named after the University’s first president, the Thomas G. Carpenter Library was completed in 1980. Now the library has over 840,000 volumes and well over 52,000 electronic books. Even with all of these resources, you’re mainly just there for the free Wi-Fi.

4. Chick-fil-A

You know that the local Chick-fil-A is part of your pre-paid meal plan, and you’ve eaten there more than you like to admit. By the end of your academic career, you’ll be sick and tired of fast food chicken sandwiches.

3. The Game Room

The Game Room is the popular place on campus for students to spend time and play pool, table tennis, board games, and video games. There are also weekly trivia nights and games of capture the flag.

2. The Robert W. Loftin Nature Trails

The Robert W. Loftin Nature Trails protect over 500 acres of natural habitat, and are open to the public all day long, every day of the week. Along the 5 miles of trail they have signs to promote environmental education and whether you wanted to or not, you’ve learned so much about preservation due to the amount of time you hung out along the trails.

1. North Florida Ospreys

UNF ospreys

Whether it was basketball, soccer, tennis, baseball, or golf, you’ve proudly cheered on the Ospreys from the stands. Even when they’re losing, you’re still having the best time because at the end of the day, the UNF Ospreys will always be your team.
