Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty is pleased to welcome Catherine Schaefer to the Metropolitan office with locations in Avondale and San Marco.

A Hoosier native, originally from Ft. Wayne, IN, Catherine Schaefer has called Jacksonville home for nearly fifteen years. Catherine has worked in the financial field for twenty-five years, having opened her own accounting and management firm in 2007. Along with her accounting firm she owns a successful crafting/embroidery business.

Her years of working in finance along with running two successful businesses have afforded Catherine the opportunity build a network of not just clients but friends. As Catherine transitions into her new career as a Realtor, she knows that her attention to detail and knowledge of financial impact are assets that will help her clients during negotiations when buying or selling. Catherine’s gratitude for her clients and love for helping others make transitioning into the real estate market seamless.

Catherine resides in the San Jose area of Northeast Florida with her husband, son, and Shi-Chi. Catherine is involved with her son’s school – The Bolles School – volunteering with the parent association, and having served as Chair and Co-Chair of several committees. She is currently the Executive Co-Chair for the Whitehurst Campus Parent Association. Catherine has also volunteered with the St. Vincent’s Foundation serving as a committee member for their annual event, “Delicious Destinations,” which benefits the St. Vincent’s Mobile Health Outreach Ministry. She also served as a committee member for organizing and hosting the first annual WimbleDog tennis tournament to raise funds for Clay Humane.

The more we travel, the more important it is to be aware of the cyber security risks. Familiarize yourself with these simple tips to stay safe online.

Think before you connect.

  • Before you connect to any public wireless hotspot – like on an airplane or in an airport, hotel, train/bus station or cafĂ© – be sure to confirm the name of the network and exact login procedures with appropriate staff to ensure that the network is legitimate.
  • Do not conduct sensitive activities, such as online shopping, banking, or sensitive work, using a public wireless network.

Only use sites that begin with “https://” when online shopping or banking.

If you haven’t been to the Kennedy Space Center in a while, it’s time to pay this place a visit. The new Space Shuttle Atlantis recently opened, telling the unbelievable story of NASA’s 20-year space shuttle program. Your kids will love seeing a shuttle that has actually been up in space! There’s also the Junior Astronaut Playdome that boasts space-themed rock walls and slides.

From 6:30-10:00 pm throughout October 14th to 31st, don’t miss out on the Spooktacular Bippity Boppity Zoo at the Jacksoncille Zoo and Gardens. There will be Halloween music, thousands of jack o’lanters, select animal exhibits, bounce houses, and of course lots of candy.

At The Hands on Children’s Museum, children of all ages can learn through play, observation, problem-solving, role-playing, and creativity. They’ll love spending time at this interesting museum, and you’ll love watching them have so much fun while learning so much!

The fall events offered by the Isle of Faith Methodist Church are fun for the whole family. Their pumpkin patch is open daily from September 30th to October 31st with a pumpkin-carving contest on October 22nd. It’s free admission, and there are children play areas as well as lots of photo opportunities.
