Located in the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve, the Kingsley plantation is a must-see for all Jacksonville locals, being the oldest surviving plantation house in the state of Florida. Learn more about your city’s rich history, and try not to run into any unfriendly ghosts while you’re there.

The skateboard museum at Kona Skate Park is well worth the visit. The walls inside the skate shop are covered wall-to-wall with vintage boards from the ’50s through to the ’80s. The museum and the park itself isn’t just for skaters, anyone and everyone will enjoy spending the day here.

Located in Westside, the Chamblin Bookmine is one of Jacksonville’s hidden gems – and America’s independently owned book store. There are well over one million books in their inventory, and most are rare or previously owned. The selection is also constantly changing, thanks to the library’s book trade-in policy.

Before you die, you need to jump into the Friendship Fountain in Southbank, if possible with friends and preferably with all of your clothes on. It was once the world’s biggest fountain, but even though it lost that title it’s still a Florida landmark and one that is just begging to be jumped in.

5. BYOB and Eat a Meal in the Garden at Community Loaves

There’s something magical about the driftwood forest at Big Talbot Island. The farther into nature you go, you’ll encounter more and more, tall and tangled driftwood on the dunes. It’s Instagram, and bucket list, worthy.

Have you ever wanted to hang out and help out at the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens? You can spend the day cleaning the anteaters’ night house, feeding otters, meeting monkeys up close, or helping prepare food for the gorillas. It’s a wild way to spend the day.
